What Makes Ivy League Admissions Different?
Holistic Review
Numbers alone won't get you in. They look at who you are, what you've done, and what you'll contribute.
Class Building
They're building a community, not just collecting top students. Uniqueness matters.
Context Matters
What you did with the opportunities available to you. A rural student isn't compared to a prep school student.
Intellectual Curiosity
They want students who learn for the love of learning, not just for grades.
The Honest Truth
- • Getting into an Ivy is never guaranteed — even with perfect stats
- • 75%+ of applicants with 1550+ SAT and 4.0 GPA are rejected
- • Your college doesn't define your success — many paths lead to great outcomes
- • The goal is to become the best version of yourself, not to game admissions
- • Fit matters — an Ivy might not be the best choice for everyone
What Ivies Are Looking For
The "Spike" (Most Important)
One area where you're exceptionally accomplished. It's better to be a national-level violinist than to be "pretty good" at violin, debate, soccer, volunteering, and robotics.
- • Published research or competition wins
- • Started something impactful (nonprofit, business, project)
- • Achieved at national/international level
- • Deep expertise in your field of interest
Academic Excellence
- • GPA: 3.9+ unweighted (top 5-10% of class)
- • Course Rigor: Most demanding curriculum available
- • SAT: 1500-1580+ (50th-75th percentile)
- • ACT: 34-36
- • APs: 8-12 with mostly 5s
- • Upward trend: Getting better each year helps
